Obituary

Jack Franklin McCain, 58, departed this life early Saturday, January 3, 2015 at Eastar Hospital in Muskogee, OK. He was a lifelong Wagoner resident, and had recently made his home in Porter, OK. Jack was born April 4, 1956 in Muskogee, OK to Dwayne McCain and Wanda Faye (Smith) Peterson. He attended Wagoner High School and later served in the United States Marine Corps. Jack was a police officer in the City of Wagoner Police Department. He retired after 23 1/2 years with the rank of Captain. For the next 13 years Jack worked as an over the road truck driver. During that time he drove all over the United States and in Canada. Throughout his life Jack had a passion for music. He played rhythm guitar as well as keyboard and harmonica. He said he loved playing, but didn't like the traveling. He was pleased to have met many famous musicians in his travels and played with the following bands, to name a few: Don and Phil Everly, Bob Haley's Crickets, Johnny Rivers Band, Bob Seger's Silver Bucket Band, the Jordanaires and the Blackwoods. Jack was preceded in death by his father, Dwayne McCain, brothers, Michael McCain, Archie Blackwell, and Bill; his grandparents; and his other mother and father, Bess and Willie Blackwell. Jack is survived by his daughter, Rusty Smith, and Steven Shelby, both of Porter; his son, Payton McCain of Wagoner; two grandsons, Matthew Smith and Bryce Smith; his mother, Wanda Peterson of Wagoner; siblings, Linda Scott and husband, Allen, Jack Blackwell, Gwen McCain, Charlotte Mitchell and husband, Bob, and Dennis McCain; adopted' grandchildren, Makaylia Shelby, Alysia Shelby, Adriana Shelby, Luke Shelby and Halley McCain; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and many friends. The family wishes to extend a special thanks to family and friends who helped with Jack's care during his illness, especially to Steve Shelby. A Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday, January 9, 2015 at Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. The Reverend Gary Carey will officiate. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Porter. Pallbearers will be Clyde Miller, Tony Ponds, Steve Hash, Dennis James, Eddie Stout, Russell Jones and Bobby Neugin.
