James Calvin Hogan

October 25, 1934 — December 29, 2025

Porter

James Calvin Hogan was born on October 25th, 1934 to Hurst and Millie Hogan in Porter, Oklahoma. James attended high school at Porter High School and graduated in 1952. James then attended college at Oklahoma State University for 1 year before returning to Porter to continue working on the family farm.

James married the love of his life, Hazel Ruth Oliver, on November 23rd, 1955. James and Hazel’s union led to the birth of 4 wonderful children, James Brent, David Lynn, Pamela Kay, and Andrea Jo Hogan.

James was very skilled in trading and farming. Early in his career he made a living by trading used equipment and vehicles while also farming. He later on would open his own farm equipment business, Hogan Motor & Equipment, in 1976. Starting his business led to many more relationships and a wisdom in trading that would later benefit his sons and grandsons. James’ strong work ethic and business knowledge were model traits that attributed to his success and the success of the rest of his family.

Traveling was something that James enjoyed very much. He and Hazel went on numerous trips over the years across the country, which led to many stories to tell. James was always a fan of taking the scenic route or a backroad just about any opportunity that he could. These backroad trips often led to a quick history lesson about that particular area. James had a memory that was sharper than anyone else. His ability to recall events and surrounding details was remarkable. Numerous times at the kitchen table he would tell stories about his parents and grandparents, how they lived and when they came to this area, and how the Hogan family had farmed the same land and lived in the same area for almost a century.

James was a faithful Christian; he attended services at the Porter church of Christ for 63 years where he also served as an elder for about 20 years. He also served as a member of the Porter School Board and the Porter Lions club for many years.

James departed this life on December 29th, 2025 in his home in Porter, Oklahoma at the age of 91 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Hazel Ruth Hogan; a son, James Brent Hogan; his parents, Hurst and Millie Hogan; and his sister, June Brewer.

Left to cherish his memory are three children and their spouses, David Lynn and Cheryl Hogan of Coweta, OK, Pamela Kay and Harold Lively of Porter, OK, and Andrea Jo and Bryan Garrett of Porter, OK; also, Judy Lawana Rice of Porter, OK; his sister, Joyce Tackett; grandchildren and spouses, Jeremy and Melissa Hogan, Joshua and Jeana Hogan, Joseph and Miranda Hogan, Jerrad Hogan, James and Reina Hogan, Justin and Falan Hogan, Clint and Eleisha Lively, Brandi and Ronnie Pressler, Ami and Will Spotts, Colby and Cheere Garrett, Madison Garrett, and Caden Garrett; numerous great grandchildren; great greatgrandchildren; nieces and nephews; other extended family and many friends.
