James M. Fletcher Jr., 69, of the Toppers area near Wagoner, died early Saturday, August 28, 2010, at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa. He was born June 12, 1941 to James M. and Marie Fletcher, who preceded him in death. He graduated from high school in Tulsa and received a scholarship to play ball for a college in Missouri. Early in his college career James suffered an eye injury, which meant the end of his athletic scholarship. James was a bookkeeper by profession and was employed for many years by RBI in Dallas before his retirement. James loved to fish for crappie and deer hunt. He loved his grandchildren, and there were many in the Toppers area who considered him there adopted grandfather. James was a devoted husband to his wife, Dorthey, especially during her illness preceding her death in November of last year. Survivors include his children, Ronald Edwards and his wife, Cheryl, of Wagoner, Kathy Thompson of Little Rock, AR, Daniel Edwards and his partner, John Ward, of Tulsa, Cindy Detlefs of Evergreen, CO and Becky Propst of the home; two brothers-in-law, James Simpson and his wife, Barbara, of Wagoner and John Frank Simpson and his wife, Lilly, of Bernice, OK; numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. Monday at Mallett Funeral Home. No service is planned.
