Funeral services for Jim Stauss, 59 of Hulbert will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, February 1, 2010 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner with Mr. Ellis Aldridge officiating. Jim was born in Tahlequah, OK to his parents, Pete and Lily (Warren) Stauss on Feb. 22, 1950, although Jim always debated that his birthday was a day later. He grew up and attended school in Wagoner before graduating from the University of Arkansas. Jim operated the family Western Auto Store in Wagoner for a short time before venturing into the restaurant business. He owned and operated Big-ens Bar-be-que restaurant for several years at Taylor's Ferry lake area near Wagoner. Jim later worked at Western Hills Guest Ranch in Sequoyah State Park. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and being outdoors, especially the white sands of the Caribbean. Jim was a great sports fan of the Arkansas Razorbacks, Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys and mostly in whatever activities his grandchildren took part in. Jim and his wife, Janet, had just recently celebrated their 35th wedding anniversary. He passed this life Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Hillcrest Hospital in Tulsa. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, an infant brother and his father-in-law, Bob Marsellis. He is survived by his wife, Janet, of the home; his children, David Smith and his wife, Kristal of Hulbert and Lee Stauss and his wife, Erin of Norman; his grandchildren, Kristian, Lane and Elizabeth and his mother-in-law, Ellen Marsellis, also of Hulbert; two sisters, Susan Romero and her husband, Phillip, of Dallas, TX and Sharon Bishoff of Tulsa; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31 at Mallett Funeral Home. Pallbearers include Bob Hudsell, Kristian Smith and Pete F. Stauss' Caudle. Funeral arrangements and interment in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hulbert are directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
