Obituary

James Thomas Cogburn, "Tom" was born July 23, 1956 in California to Rupert and Merilynn Cogburn, the youngest of three children. He passed from this life to meet his savior on Oct 25, 2024.

Tom grew up and went to high school in Broken Bow where he played the trombone in the marching band. After high school he joined the US Coast Guard in 1974 where he spent time in Iwo Jima. He married Ethel Morris in 1976, with which his daughter, Rebecca, was born. Tom later married Annie in 1987 and this gave him the opportunity to take part in helping to raise her children, Catherine and Adam Tom.

Tom was a plumber by trade, but was really a Jack of all trades and a master of many,  he could build anything, from homes, to boat docks. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to neighbors with any projects they had. Tom loved to spend time with his grand children, he enjoyed teaching them everything he knew, welding, roofing, riding the 4 wheelers in the mud, doing donuts and drifting in the jeep and old truck. He especially loved to fish using trot lines and jug lines. He had all the fishing stories you could imagine, from the big one that got away to the big one that he got pictures of. He had a great love for blues music, and his best fishing bud, dachshund named Possum.

In 2010 he and Annie moved to their home on Lake Ft. Gibson where he was best known for his fried catfish. This is where he mastered his fishing skills and was able to provide 100s of pounds of catfish for numerous mission trips and church fundraisers. When they bought the place on the lake they said they'd hoped to make many memories there with the grandchildren, and make memories they did! They had yearly traditions of coloring and hunting Easter Eggs, watching fireworks from the boat, carving pumpkins, and a huge game of Dirty Santa at Christmas.

Tom and Annie loved to travel and have visited many places from Egypt, to Italy, to the beaches of Mexico. Tom gave his life to Christ in November of 2015, at which time he was baptized and joined Woodcrest Free Will Baptist Church in Catoosa. He and Annie were active members and  enjoyed their time in fellowship with their church family.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Rupert and Merilynn Cogburn, sister Debra Ogle, and grandson Isaiha Tom. He is survived by his wife Annie of the home, daughter Rebecca and husband Chris Goodman of Tulsa, their children, Abigail, Noah, Lexie, Madelynn, and Cooper Goodman. Daughter Catherine and husband Matt Getz of Buford Georgia, their children Sadie, Wyatt, and Audrey Getz, and son Adam Tom, wife Charlie of Buford and their children Aislyn, Rylee, and Ryan. Sister, Angie Stephens of Enid, Nephew Jeremy Johnson of Enid.

A memorial service will be held at Woodcrest Free Will Baptist Church in Catoosa on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at 10am with pastor Roger Ballard officiating.
