James Paul Whitmire was born March 4, 1939 in Haskell, Oklahoma to Ollis and Opal (Vaughan) Whitmire. He grew up in Tulsa, OK and graduated from Central High School. Before retirement James was employed as a carpenter with Oklahoma Fixture Company, mostly working on remodeling department stores.

James departed this life Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at the Eastern Oklahoma VA Health Care System in Muskogee, OK, which honored him with the "Walk of Honor" as he left, in honor of his service in the United States Army.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollis and Opal Whitmire; a brother, Wallace and two sisters, Wanda and Sally.

Survivors include two children and their spouses, Alana and Terry Campbell of Tulsa, OK and Paul and Dawn Whitmire of Catoosa, OK; four grandchildren, Kyle Campbell, Michael Davis, Jonathon Davis and Dylan Davis; four great-grandchildren; a sister, Laverne; extended family and friends.

Friends and family will call for viewing from 9:00 am to 7:00 pm Monday at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory, 417 East Cherokee Street, Wagoner, OK.

James will be taken to his final rest at Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK on Tuesday, October 16, 2018.
