Jesse George Page was born on February 25, 1937 in Wagoner, Oklahoma to parents Ja Page & Phoebe Jane Neely. Jesse attended Wagoner public schools and graduated from Wagoner High School in 1955. Jesse married his high school sweetheart and homecoming queen Betty Sue Whitekiller, on June 11, 1955. Jesse was truly blessed by the love of his life for over 60 wonderful years. Betty took amazing care of Jesse for the last years of his life. Jesse chose to go be with his Father in Heaven on March 30, 2016.
Jesse Page was preceded in death by his 11 siblings. Brothers included: John William, Raymond, Gene, Frank, Tom and Jack. Sisters include Phoebe Jane, Ina Mae, Myrtle, Annaliza and Mary Ruth.
Jesse Page attended NEO A&M College in Miami, Oklahoma where he was a proud member of the Norsemen football team in 1955-56. He then attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma where he was on the Redmen football team that won the NAIA National Championship in 1958. After college, Jesse took his first coaching and teaching job in Shidler, Oklahoma. Coaching opportunities became open at Kingfisher, then off to Enid where they won 3 consecutive state football championships in 1964, 65 & 66. Jesse then came home to Wagoner to serve as Head Football Coach for the Wagoner Bulldogs from 1967-1974. While at Wagoner, he was honored to coach the OCA All-State football team in 1972. Jesse taught several subjects including Social Studies, Government, Economics and Driver's Education. He acquired his Masters Degree in education and accepted a Principal position in Administration for Wagoner Public Schools. Jesse served, taught and coached thousands of kids in his 20 years as an educator receiving daily gratification of doing what he loved to do.
After giving all he could for education, Jesse chose to go to work for State Farm Insurance company in 1975 where he became a highly successful insurance agent for 18 years. Jesse was recognized by State Farm yearly for achieving regional and national sales goals and serving his community with integrity, honesty and trust.
Jesse also served his community by being a devoted member of First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and member of the church choir. He was an active member of the Rotary Club, Men's Prayer Breakfast, Chamber of Commerce, Wagoner Booster Club, Oklahoma National Guard and most recently the "Voice of the Wagoner Bulldogs" from 1983-1997.
Jesse loved spending his time playing golf with his wife, Betty and family and friends at least three times a week. He took many hunting and fishing trips as his kids and grandkids were lucky enough to go with him. He also loved singing in the First Baptist Church choir.
Jesse Page's legacy as a Husband, Father, Grandad, Coach, Mr., and friend to many will continue through his children: daughter, Joy Essary and husband, Mark; son, Brent Page and wife, Amy; son Ja Page and wife, Holly; son, Jon Page and wife, Kerry. His loving grandchildren: Steven Essary and Megan Marquard; Erin DeGarmo and Paul; Jessica Page,Tanner Page and Garrett Page; Danielle Page and Evan Page; Cale Eidson; Chandler and Trey Dunlap; Avery Page and Dakota Page. His amazing great grandchildren: Phoenix, Hadley, Maddox, McKenna and Paislee.
The family will host a public viewing on Friday, April 1st from 5:00-7:00 pm at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. Funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church in Wagoner on Saturday, April 2nd at 1:00 pm. Interment will be held at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner.
