Joan Peterson

Joan (Ousley) Peterson was born July 20, 1945 in Muskogee, OK to Joe Donald and Emma Jean Ousley. Joan passed away on May 16, 2026 at age 80. Joan is proceeded in death by her parents, six brothers and one sister. Also her beloved husband James Wilson of 18 years and several years later husband, Carl Sissom of 10 years. 

Joan never had children of her own but has three step-daughters: Laura Wilson from Houston, TX, Barbara DeSimone of Broken Arrow and Connie Reed of Broken Arrow, OK, and two step-sons: Randy Sissom and wife, Sasia, of Preston and Jim Hargrove (Carl's step-son). Joan has five step grandchildren from Houston, Texas and three step grandchildren from Preston, Oklahoma.

Joan was saved and baptized at the age of 12 with her mother and sister in Morris, Oklahoma in 1959. Joan and her sister went on to sing in the churches as teenagers and young adults. Joan loved going to church.

Joan worked for Wagoner County in the Assessor's Office in mapping and property. She retired in 2007 after about 20 years.

Joan has three sisters: Donna Kerns from Tulsa, OK, Virginia Butler and husband, Steve, from Oktaha, OK, and Jeanie Curphey and husband, Larry, of Bradenton, FL and two brothers: Joe Ousley and wife, Lynn, of Tulsa and Gary Ousley and wife, Linda, of Okmulgee. Several nieces and nephews which she loved and enjoyed very much.

Joan loved to sew and was an excellent seamstress. She loved making Barbie doll clothes for her nieces and also made many of their clothes.

She loved to get together with her sisters and have sister day. She also loved being together with all her brothers and sisters for holidays and just to enjoy time together. 

Family will gather at the graveside of Joan Peterson to celebrate her life on Monday, June 1, 2026, at 1:00 pm at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, Oklahoma.
