Obituary

Funeral services for John Bruce Baker were held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 5, 2010 at the Cornerstone Community Church of the Nazarene in Wagoner with the Reverend Jeff Wooten officiating. John Bruce was born April 11, 1941 in Checotah, OK to his parents, John and Lou Baker. He graduated from Will Rogers High School and attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. John was proud to serve in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967, where he was a helicopter mechanic. Following the service, he returned to Tulsa and worked for Douglas Aircraft and at the Ford Glass Plant, retiring from Ford Glass in 2003 after 30 years of service. John had a passion of living life to its fullest and devoted his spare time to fishing, bow hunting, painting landscapes and seascapes, traveling, studying Civil War history and doing carpentry work. Surrounded by his family, he peacefully passed away Monday, August 2, 2010 at the Veteran's Hospital in Muskogee. John was preceded in death by his parents and he is survived by his loving wife, Mary of Wagoner; a son, Russell of Tulsa; step-children, Patty Holloway and her husband, George of Talala, Oklahoma, Dale Fosdyck and his wife, Irene of Silverdale, Washington, Pam Gregg also of Talala and Jackie Smith and her husband, Jeff also of Tulsa; eight grandchildren; his sister, Brenda Maples and her husband, Ed of Broken Arrow and his step-mother, Oleta Baker of Claremore; other relatives and many friends. Honorary pallbearers were Steve Adair, Ben Baker, Ed Maples, Brian Silva, Jeff Smith and George Holloway. The family received friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 4 at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. Memorials may be sent to the ALS Research Foundation. Military Rites were performed by the V.F.W. Honor Guard from Broken Arrow, OK. Funeral arrangements and interment in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner were directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
