Obituary

John Michael Clinton II (Smalling), 32, of Broken Arrow, died Saturday, July 26, 2008 as the result of a diving accident at Lake Skiatook. A funeral service will be held at 10 AM Wednesday, July 30, 2008 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. Mr. Steve Lay will officiate. Interment will be in the Park Grove Cemetery in Broken Arrow, OK. Pallbearers will be Robert Smalling, Michael Elrod, Josh Mefford, Justin Gurrero, Aaron Malloy and Peter White. John Michael was born July 14, 1976 in Memphis, TN to John Michael Clinton I and Donna Faith (Ray) Clinton Smalling. After high school graduation he earned an associate's degree at O.J. T. and began working as a veterinary tech, an occupation which he enjoyed for most of his life. He was currently employed as an assembler at Metro Sales. John enjoyed many expressions of his very artistic nature. Besides creating artwork, John wrote poetry, sang and played in a band. He could play almost any instrument, including piano, guitar, saxophone,clarinet and French horn. He was tenderhearted and a champion to anyone who couldn't help themselves, including the disabled and elderly, and he loved, fought for and rescued animals. Many considered him their friend. He volunteered his time and talent in the Safe Halloween Organization at Catoosa. John was preceded in death at an early age by his father, John Michael Clinton SR; by his sister, Joni Smalling on September 9, 1996, by his paternal grandparents, Ike and Rita Clinton, maternal grandfather, William Ray and paternal grandfather, Jim Smalling. He is survived by his son, John Conner Clinton of Byhalia, MS; his parents, Terry and Faith Smalling of Wagoner; maternal grandmother, Mary Ray of Byhalia; paternal grandmother, Doris Smalling of Wagoner; aunts and uncles, Tracy and Mike Elrod of Byhalia, Mark and Nikki Ray of Collierville, TN, Brent and Donna Smalling of Mesquite, TX; cousins, Michael Elrod, Michelle McKinney, both of Memphis, Mandy Smalling and Bobby Smalling, both of Mesquite and Cody Ray and Racheal Ray of Collierville; other relatives and many friends, who all know that "John made it to Prattville".
