John Lynn Mathewson, 70, of Holdenville, Oklahoma died early on Saturday, May 23, 2020 from respiratory failure.  John was commonly known to his friends as "Chief" acknowledging his Cherokee heritage.  He was an Army veteran stationed at Fort Monmouth, NJ and also served a tour of duty in Germany.  He is predeceased by his parents Pearl and Lynn Mathewson of Wagoner, Oklahoma.  John is survived by his two children, Tracy Mathewson Johnson, of Garland, Texas, and Jason Mathewson Lyman, of Brick, New Jersey and also a half-brother, Dwayne Thompson of Stroud, Oklahoma.  Services are pending due to current pandemic restrictions.
