Johnny Lee Cannon was born October 9, 1947 in Wagoner, Oklahoma to John and Lillie Pearl (Crawford) Cannon. He attended Wagoner schools all twelve years and was a member of the Class of 1965. He fondly remembered while growing up joining relatives in western Oklahoma to help with baling hay. He later graduated from Conners State College with a degree in police science.
Johnny was raised in the First Baptist Church and had been attending Cross Roads Community Church. His favorite hobbies were fishing and golf.
Johnny was a dedicated law enforcement officer for 38 years. He began his career at the Muskogee Police Department where he served for twelve years before becoming a member of the Wagoner County Sheriff's Office. He served as Undersheriff for 18 years before being elected as Wagoner County Sheriff. He served in that position for four years before retiring.
Johnny departed this life on Monday, September 26, 2016 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Lillie Pearl Cannon; his son, Scott Cannon; a brother, Tom Cannon; two sisters, Cherrie (Cannon) Smith and Nancy Cannon.
Survivors include his lovely wife, Beverly (Price) Cannon of the home; daughter, Crystal Gonzalez and her partner, Travis Walbran, of Broken Arrow; sister Jonna (Cannon) Castle of Denver; brother and sister-in-law, Robert and Kim Cannon of Bixby; sisters-in-law, LaVelda Cannon of Sapulpa and Mary Price of Wagoner; brother-in-law, Jim Price and wife, Barbara of Tulsa; grandchildren, Sydney Teague, Lauren Collins, and Alex Gonzalez, his most loved grandson; his and Beverly's beloved Aunt Ruth; many nieces and nephews, cousins; other relatives and friends, including his furry companion and best friend, Jackie.
A Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 7:00 PM Thursday at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner.
The Funeral Service will be 1:00 PM Friday, Sept. 30, 2016 at the First Baptist Church in Wagoner. The Reverend Gary Woodson will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Kelly Burke, Ralph Curry, Dale Rinehart, Dustin Dorr, Jerry Hefner and Travis Walbran. Honorary Pallbearers are all law enforcement officers, Oklahoma Highway Patrol Troopers, Wagoner County Sheriff Deputies and Wagoner City Police.
A Law Enforcement Honor Guard will provide Rites at the Committal Service.
