Johnny C. Drake was born April 11, 1944 in Mazie, Oklahoma to Edgar Roosevelt and Naomi Emaline (Arnold) Drake. He graduated from Wagoner High School in 1962, where he was all conference player for the Bulldog football team. He continued playing football while attending Connors State College. Sports continued to be an interest throughout his life, especially when his children were involved in youth sports. He was a founding member of the Wagoner Youth Football League and the Wagoner Takedown Club. He built the trailer for the big Bulldog that is a familiar sight to all.
Johnny was a car enthusiast all his life. He was involved with building many custom hot rods, dirt track and drag racing cars. He also enjoyed driving many of those cars he had built. He was well known for his excellent skills and knowledge for classic car restoration. Over the years he built and restored numerous vehicles for many of his friends in the Wagoner area. Over the years Johnny owned and restored several hundred automobiles.
Johnny was a lifelong Wagoner resident and a member of the Wagoner First Baptist Church. He worked as a welder in fabrication in the oil industry before retirement from LaBarge Pipe and Steel company.
Johnny peacefully departed this life early Sunday, November 17, 2019 at his home in Wagoner at the age of seventy-five years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Naomi Drake; his first wife Bonnie Sue (Trapp) Drake; a grandson, Chase Sullivan and a brother, Jim Drake.
Survivors include his wife, Martie (Cooper) Drake of the home; his daughter and son-in-law, Debi and Gary Caffey of Catoosa, OK; two sons and daughters-in-law, Johnny and Diana Drake of Broken Arrow, OK and Roger and Heather Drake of Wagoner, OK; his grandchildren, Ashley Sullivan of Wagoner, OK, Connor Drake and wife, Casey, of Oklahoma City, OK, Madeline Drake and Ella Drake of Broken Arrow, OK; Ashleigh Seybold and husband Scott of Tulsa, OK, Ryan Drake and wife, Emily of Tulsa, OK, Brett Drake of Norman, OK and his fiancé, Gabby Roberts and Braden Drake of Wagoner, OK; one brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Glenda Drake of Wagoner, OK; a number of nieces and nephews; extended family and many good friends.
The Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, November 23, 2019 at the First Baptist Church, 401 Northeast 2 nd Street, Wagoner, OK. The Reverend Mark Pointer will officiate. Eulogists will be Johnny Drake Jr. and Art Hobbs.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to LaDonna Wilson of St. Francis Home Health and to Emerald Hospice for their care and support during Johnny's illness.
