IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph Dale
Cowan
June 12, 1934 – May 16, 2024
Joseph Dale Cowan passed away on Thursday, May 16th, 2024. He was born on June 12th, 1934. Dale graduated from Oark High School where he served as president of his FFA chapter. As a teenager he was hauling logs down the mountain to Clarksville AR and driving the local school bus. His stories of driving on ice on mountain roads were legendary. Dale's lifelong love, after his wife, was woodworking. He learned to build windows, doors and custom molding. When he needed kitchen cabinets, he built his own. Dale was a member of the Oklahoma Lumbermen's Association.
On July 10th, 1954, he married Janie Lee Wadsworth in Bristow, OK at an open-air tent revival because the evangelist was their favorite pastor. It was, perhaps, the most well attended wedding ever. July would have been their 70th anniversary.
Dale was known for his generosity who went the extra mile to help others. He never met a stranger. He enjoyed serving in the bus ministry, as Sunday school leader, and Deacon at Twin Oaks Baptist Church.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Valeria Cowan, his sisters Laurita Cowell and Barbara Jones, and his daughter, Elizabeth Jan.
He is survived by his wife Janie Lee, two sons, Forrest (Nina) of Tulsa, and Greg of Houston TX., three grandsons, Joe Michael Jones, Joe Roy (Libby) Cowan, Jonathan (Kira) Jones, two granddaughters, Annie (Dan) Morris, Mary (Franklin) Wheeler, and ten great-grandchildren.
Joseph Dale Cowan memorial service will be Saturday, June 1st, 2024, at 11am at Twin Oaks Baptist Church, 70076 S. 330 Rd., Whitehorn Cove, Wagoner, OK 74467.
Memorial donations may be made in Dale's name to the Twin Oaks Baptist Church in Wagoner. Please send to the address above.
