Josephine V. Staner, 88, died at her home in Porter, OK on Thursday, February 26, 2009. The funeral service will be held at 10 AM Monday, March 2, 2009 at the Calvary Baptist Church in Muskogee, OK, where she was an active member. The Reverend Glen Little, the Reverend Bob Shoemake and the Reverend Marion Graves will officiate. A visitation will be held from 2 to 4 PM on Sunday at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner, who is in charge of arrangements. Josephine was born August 5, 1920 in Sand Springs, OK to Albert M. and Rose (Valerius) Smith. In 1938 she graduated from Muskogee High School. She was married to Allan B. Staner on May 25, 1940. Josephine was a notable homemaker and a very accomplished seamstress. She was beloved by her family and friends who will miss her greatly. Survivors include a son, Steve A. Staner and his wife, Sherry, of Porter; two daughters, Sandra Sue Dawson of Oklahoma City, OK and Zoe Ann Whitley and her husband, Randy, of Bedford, TX; three sisters, Marguerite Worley, Rose Ann Saylor and Louise Clausen; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Staner, in1994; by her parents; two brothers, Albert Smith and Vern Smith and a sister, Sylvia Doyle. Interment will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Mike Dawson, Alan Cox, Don Kilgore, Sloan Staner, Caleb Whitley and Sam Whitley. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church in Muskogee.
