Obituary

Julian Dan Tackett was born August 11, 1940 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to Sherman and Lottie Mae (Elam) Tackett. He departed this life on Wednesday, July 6, 2011 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 70 years, 10 months, and 25 days. He graduated from Porter High School and later earned an Associate's Degree from Tulsa Junior College. Before retirement J.D. was employed at Braden Winch as a tooling engineer. On March 21, 1961 Dan married his wife of fifty years, Carolyn Jean. They lived a long and happy life in the Porter area where Dan enjoyed active involvement in his community and church, the Porter Church of Christ. He served as Porter's Mayor for five years; was a Lion's Club member; drove a school bus; served as timekeeper at football games; and was a rural postal carrier. He was a deacon and elder in his church as well as serving as bookkeeper. Dan and his family enjoyed time together, especially when they went bowling. They will greatly miss his presence in their lives. Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jean, of the home; two sons, Paul Tackett and his wife, Daven, of Tulsa and Danny Tackett of the home; granddaughters, Erin Julianne Tackett and Ali Raeann Tackett; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Gerald and Cona Mae Tackett of Muskogee, Robert "Bob" and Martha Tackett of Wagoner, and Bill and Joyce Tackett of Porter; one sister, June Tackett of Porter; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends. J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Mayble and brothers, J.C., Jack W., Baby Boy, Edward, Roy Benton, Mickey, Billy B., and Earl Wayne. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 9, 2011 at the Porter Church of Christ. A Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the church. Mr. Jonathan Crowell will officiate. Pallbearers will be Matt Cole, Ben Cole, Dennis Holmes and Dewayne Thompson, David Hargrove and Joe VanTuyl. Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Tackett, Bill Tackett, Gerald Tackett, Ed Dilbeck, Doug Robertson, and Robert Williams. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Porter under the direction of Mallett Funeral Home. The family suggests memorial donations may be made to the Porter Church of Christ Baptistery Fund.
