Julie (Matthews) Tierney was born November 15, 1938 in Evansville, Indiana to Howard and Aline (Shlundt) Matthews. She held an Associate's Degree from Tulsa Junior College in Horticulture. Julie was a CPA employed at Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, OK and at Andy Ewing auto sales before her retirement.

Julie and her husband, Matthew made their home in Springfield, Missouri for eight years before moving to Tulsa, OK. They later retired to their home near Wagoner, OK.

Julie loved to study the Bible. She completed more than three years studies at the Community Church in Tahlequah, OK and was ordained there. She answered the call to serve as Associate Pastor at First Christian Church in Wagoner. Julie also loved music and enjoyed her time as Choir Director at First Christian Church.

Julie departed this life to be with the Lord Wednesday evening, August 18, 2021 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 82 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, Howard and Aline Matthews; her beloved daughter, with whom she shared a love of hummingbirds, Kelly Owens and a younger sister, Ester Vandiver.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 51 years, Matthew P. Tierney of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Peter and Shane Tierney of Tulsa, OK and Michael and Judith Tierney of Half Moon Bay, CA; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a sister, Sarah Lynch of Springfield, MO; extended family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family request memorial donations be made to Wagoner Area Neighbors, Post Office Box 993, Wagoner, OK 74477.

A memorial service for Julie will be held at 11 am Friday, September 10, 2021 at the First Christian Church in Wagoner, OK. The Reverend Dr. Richard Allen will officiate.
