Kenneth Lee Cleland was born July 27, 1937 in Wagoner, OK to Wheeler Bancroft and Katherine (Scammerhorn) Cleland. After graduating from high school Kenneth served in the United States Army.
Kenneth began his career with the Wagoner Fire Department on September 30, 1975 and served the community until his retirement on April 30, 2003. He was named Fire Chief in 1997, a position he held until his retirement.
Kenneth and Carol were active members of the First Baptist Church. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, a 32 degree Mason.
Kenneth's hobbies included fishing, hunting and four wheeling. The family will cherish fond memories of travelling through the mountains in Utah.
Kenneth departed this life Tuesday evening, January 19, 2021 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, OK at the age of 83 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Wheeler B. and Katherine Cleland; two wives, Sharon (Pool) Cleland and Sharon (Cooper) Cleland; two brothers, William H. (Bill) Cleland and W. B. Cleland and his wife, Bonnie; a step-son, Gregory L. Blaylock and father-in-law, Bill Redford.
Survivors include his wife, Carol L. Cleland; daughter, Sherrie Lynn Atkins and husband, Jim; son, Kenneth B. Cleland and wife, Melissa; step-daughter, Cheri Lee Simmons and husband, Ted; step-daughter-in-law, Tammy D. Blaylock; sister, Kitty Ferguson; mother-in-law, Junie Redford; sister-in-law, Velma Cleland; grandchildren, James Wheeler and wife, Danielle, Josh Wheeler and wife, Amanda, Daison Cooley and wife, April, Devon Cooley and Tabitha Holloway; great-grandchildren, Scotty, Conner, Haley and Taylor; step-grandchildren, Keyton, Kenady and husband, Cody, Robbie and wife, Chelsie, Keith and Jennifer; step-great-grandchildren, Jackson, Gage, Colton, Easton and Lyndee; extended family and friends.
Viewing will be Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 pm at Mallett Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be at 1:00 pm Monday, January 25, 2021 at the First Baptist Church, 401 NE 2 nd Street, Wagoner. Officiating will be the Reverends Mark Pointer and Wade Robertson. Speaker will be Rodney Ferguson.
Interment will be in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Military Rites will be presented by the U.S. Army Honor Team. Pallbearers will be Robert Simmons, Keith Simmons, Keyton Blaylock, Daison Cooley, Jimmy Wheeler and Josh Wheeler. Honorary pallbearers will be Kenny Cleland, Michael Keith, Rodney Ferguson, David Jenkins, Ronald Ross and W.H. "Dub" Cleland.
