Funeral services for Larry Leon Cole, 61 of Porter will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, March 3 at the Broken Arrow Indian United Methodist Church in Broken Arrow with Pastor Anna Stilwell officiating. Larry was born March 9, 1950 in Muskogee to his parents, Jack and Mildred Lucille (Cook) Cole. He grew up and graduated high school in Porter, where he was very active in FFA, and later attended Oklahoma State University. His first job was working for his father at Coles Mobile Station in Porter; he later worked in the Porter Coal Mining and then in offshore drilling in Louisiana. In June, 1983 he and Margaret opened Larry's Fried Chicken in Owasso, and the family continues the operation today. On September 16, 1976 Larry was united in marriage to Margaret Keele, in Oklahoma. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Porter, the Cattleman's Association, and the United States Auto Club (USAC). Larry was also a volunteer fireman from 1970-1980 and served as Fire Chief for the City of Porter. He was an outdoorsman and loved boating, four-wheeling, tractor pulls, fishing and hunting, especially the Colorado elk hunts. Larry was a NASCAR racing fan and most recently was involved in midget auto racing. He volunteered at Thurnderbird Speedway. He was a big fan of OSU Cowboys football and loved attending the games. Larry truly enjoyed life with all of his family and friends. Larry passed away at his home Wednesday, February 29, 2012. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Margaret of the home; two sons, Ryan and Miles Cole of the home; one daughter, Heather Cole Jones and her husband, Timothy, of Muskogee; a brother, Roy Cole and his wife, Eve also of Porter; aunts and uncles, Ruth and Clifford Newberry of Porter and Max and Donna Cole of Coweta; several nieces and nephews, cousins; other relatives and many friends. Pallbearers will be Alan Parnell, Ben Cole, Matt Cole, Mike Boyd, Lyndell Jamison and Kevin Bayer. Honorary pallbearers will be H. V. Roberts, Kenny Bayer, Steve Staner, Ray Crawford, Mike Gigot, Bill Killpatrick, Danny Keele and Joe Loyet. Funeral arrangements and interment in Greenwood Cemetery in Porter are directed by Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
