Larry W. Cooper was born September 9, 1947 in Wagoner, OK to Jack D. Cooper and Ruby Frances (Shelton) Smith. The family lived in a number of communities before settling in Vian, OK, where Larry attended school and graduated from high school. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1967 and served proudly until his honorable discharge in 1971. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Meritorious Unit commendation, Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Before retirement Larry worked in commercial building construction as a concrete finisher. His hobbies included hunting, fishing and metal detecting. His music of choice was country, and he was a fan of Oklahoma football. When OU and OSU were playing, he leaned towards the OU side.

Larry departed this life Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at the Gore Nursing Home at the age of 76 years. He was preceded in death by his father, Jack Cooper, and Jack's wife, Ann Cooper; his mother, Ruby Smith; two brothers, Terry Cooper and Jackie Cooper; and a nephew, Chris Cooper.

Survivors include his son, Brandon Cooper; his daughter, Bridgette Cooper; two granddaughters, Chloe Cooper and Carley Cooper; his siblings, Judy, Kathy and husband, Joe Hitchcock, and Karen and husband, Greg Turner, Clay Keho, Debbie and husband, Ed Brockman, and Sheila Burger; numerous nieces and nephews; other extended family and friends.

A Memorial Service honoring the life of Larry Cooper will be held on Thursday, May 9, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Ft. Gibson National Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the United States Navy Honors Team. Officiating will the Isaac Slate.
