Lawrence D. "Larry" Clites was born February 26, 1944 in Bedford, Pennsylvania to Floyd Allen Clites and Hazel Evelyn (Miller) Clites. He grew up in Pennsylvania and joined the United States Army at an early age. Larry was a decorated veteran of Viet Nam, where he served as a sniper for the CIA. He was an over the road truck driver for 29 years. The last several years he and Betty drove together. Larry and Betty were together for 24 years and shared a special bond of companionship and love that leaves a legacy of many happy memories for Betty. For many years they wintered in Arizona and made many friendships there. In 1998 they became active members of the Immanuel Southern Baptist Church in Wagoner. Betty and Larry returned to Wagoner permanently in 2005. Early Thursday, September 17, 2015, Larry departed this life at his home in Wagoner at the age of 71 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and a sister. His loving wife, Betty Jean (Meeks) Clites, survives him. He is also survived by two daughters, Karen Shampine and Peggy (Clites), and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The graveside funeral service will be at 10:30 A.M. at Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner, Oklahoma. The Reverend Billy Rice will officiate. Military Honors will be provided by the Donaghe-Elliot American Legion Post 56.
