Obituary

Leon Dockrey was born on March 28, 1941 in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Loyce and Effie (Orr) Dockrey.  As a child in grade school Leon and his cousin Glenda walked from the farm to school; a mile and a half one way.   He later attended Star School, where he had the first opportunity to ride a school bus.  He attended Northeastern State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education.

Leon was a kind-hearted, caring man. He often placed the needs of others before his own. He was an English Literature Educator at Bland, Missouri for ten years.

Leon returned home after ten years to care for his parents, as both of their health was declining. He took on the role and acted as caretaker, fulfilling their wishes of remaining on the farm. While making sure the operations of Dockrey Farm ran well. Planting and harvesting the corn, wheat, mung beans, and tending to the cattle was a full-time career.

Leon enjoyed assisting others and witnessing them become successful.  He provided students with the necessary funds to attend college and further their education, especially those who showed perseverance and dedication to their studies. He provided scholarships in his father's name, and his own name. His scholarships will continue to be provided at Northeastern State University, East Central, and Rogers State College.

Leon departed this life on Wednesday, June 5, 2024 at Hillcrest Medical Center in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 83 years.  Preceding him in death are his grandparents, Laney and Susiana Dockrey; parents, Loyce and Effie Dockrey; brother, Jerry Dale Dockrey; and cousin, Richard Young.

Surviving Leon include cousin, Glenda and Bill Drake of Wagoner, OK; nephew, Billy and Kathy Drake of Pottsboro, TX; nephew, David Drake of Wagoner, OK; niece, Kimberly Drake and Kat Laird of Spicewood, TX; great-niece, Kali Drake-Creme and her husband, Tony and their children, Anthony and Vivienne of Dallas, TX; great-niece, Kari Brunk and her husband, Bradley and their son, Ryan of Pottsboro, TX; cousin, Judy Young of Kimberling City, MO; and special friends, Dennis Shoemaker and Joanna Beck all who will miss him immensely.
