Obituary

Leon Hawkins was born November 29, 1932 at his home in Oneta, Oklahoma, to John B. and Myrtle (Denton) Hawkins. He graduated from Broken Arrow High School in 1951. Leon was a lifelong farmer and enjoyed the farming life in Oneta for many years. He was employed as well as a truck driver for District 3 County Commissioner in Wagoner County. He served in the Coweta City Council for several years. Since 2006 Leon had been a resident of Wagoner. Leon passed this life in Tulsa, Oklahoma on Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the age of 79 years, 8 months and 5 days. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Josie Powers Hawkins; his parents, John and Myrtle Hawkins; a sister, Geneva Sheram; a brother, Darrell Hawkins; three stepdaughters, Kathie Hash Simpson, Sharon Hash Coffey and Judy Hash Flannagan; and a step granddaughter, Angela Ladner. Survivors include his loving wife, Jimmie Helen Hawkins of the home in Wagoner; his sons and their spouses, Kenneth Leon and Georgie Hawkins of Chelsea, OK and Dennis Ray and Mary Ann Hawkins of Broken Arrow, OK; a stepson and his wife, Steve and Rhonda Hash of Wagoner; three sisters, Wilma Vaughn, Dircie Rhodes and Leons's twin, Iwania Phillips; grandchildren and spouses, Brandi Waddell and Danny Chelsea, Dustin and Sam Hawkins, Mallory Hawkins, Max Hawkins and Misty Sims; ten step grandchildren, Erin Wold, Scott Flannagan, Allison Harding, Mike Gilmore, James Hash, Natalie Hash, Christopher Lipe, Jon Lipe, Robert Coffey and Daniel Coffey; his best buddies, Tyler Ladner and Cody Ladner; many great grandchildren; other relatives and friends. The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, 2012 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. Officiating will be the Reverend Larry Brown. Interment will follow in Vernon Cemetery in Coweta, OK. Pallbearers will be Dustin Hawkins, Jon Lipe, James Hash, Hugo Sanseat and Cody Ldner. Robert Coffey will serve as an honorary pallbearer. A visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday evening at Mallett Funeral Home. Friends and family may leave online condolences at www.mallettfuneralhome.com.
