Obituary

Linda Kay (Spence) Wofford, a native of Wagoner, OK, departed this life on Thursday, November 25, 2010 at her home in Wagoner. Linda was born in Muskogee, OK on February 7, 1947. She graduated from Wagoner High School in 1965 and attended the University of Oklahoma and Northeastern State University. After earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Journalism, Linda began a career in the newspaper industry, following in the steps of her parents, Frank and Bea Spence, who owned and published the Wagoner Tribune for many years. She worked at the paper and was the publisher of the Wagoner Tribune before leaving journalism to successfully start the business she owned at the time of her death, LK and Company Tours, which specializes in motor coach tours. Linda was a lifelong member of the First Presbyterian Church in Wagoner where she enjoyed participating in the bell choir for a number of years. Linda felt a sense of pride in her community and contributed back; she was a longtime member of the Fort Gibson Lake Association, Chamber of Commerce, and LK and Company has been a faithful sponsor of the annual Christmas shows. She was a founding member of the Blue Star Mothers Chapter in Wagoner. Linda was a member of Wagoner Study Club, PEO, and the Red Hat Club. She was a loving mother to Brad and his wife, Rachel, Wofford of Wagoner and Matt Wofford, a member of the U.S. Army stationed in Fort Lee, Virginia, and his wife, Pamela; a doting grandmother to five grandchildren, Dylan, Michael, Evan, Matthew and Rhiannon Wofford; a devoted daughter to her mother, Bea Perry, and her husband, Don Perry; a cherished niece to her aunts and uncles, Eddie and Helen Hefner of Wagoner, Dorothy Foster of Coweta, OK and Mary Spence Smith of Yukon, OK, who all survive her, along with numerous cousins, other relatives, and many friends. All will miss her dearly. She was preceded in death by her father, Frank Spence; her grandparents; and uncles, Bill Spence, Bud Hefner and James Hefner, and aunts, Pauline Wilson and Millie. A funeral service for Linda was held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church in Wagoner. The Reverend John Blue officiated. Interment was in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made the First Presbyterian Church, 205 North Main Street, Wagoner, OK 74467.
