Funeral services for Lois Christine Halpain, 89, life-long resident of the Hulbert area will be at 2:00, Monday, Feb. 11, at the First Freewill Baptist Church in Wagoner with the Reverend Bobby Botts officiating. Lois Christine (Hakes) Halpain was born October 14, 1923 in Hulbert, Oklahoma to Leonard Delbert and Victoria Elizabeth (Nichols) Hakes. She grew up in the Hulbert area and attended school at Prairie View. On November 28, 1940 she was united in marriage to Howard Buster' Halpain in Tahlequah, OK, a union lasting over 60 years until his passing in 2001. Lois was a wonderful homemaker to her family and loved farming and helping her dad and her neighbors in the hayfields. A Baptist by faith, she was a member of the First Freewill Baptist Church in Wagoner where she was baptized Dec. 8, 1985. The Lord called her home from her labors Thursday, Feb. 7, 2013 from her home in Hulbert at the age of 89. Lois is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buster, who affectionately called her Little Richard'; four sisters and their husbands, Ruby Thomas and Alexander, Wilma Jewett and Claude, Tansylee Manes and Laurston and Cora Myers and Orville; a brother-in-law, Jeff Forrest. Those left to cherish her memory include her four children, Lois Yvonne Halpain, Howard Joseph Halpain and wife, Rhonda, Patricia Ann McMahan and husband Albert and Judy Kay Spencer and husband, Leonard; twelve grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Lonnie Hakes and wife, Wanda; a sister Bessie Forrest; two sisters-in-law, Lucy Halpain and Maggie Hunton; one brother-in-law, Phillip Halpain; numerous nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends most of whom referred to her as Granny Lois'. Pallbearers are Daniel Walker, Chris Brown, Eric Sisco, James Ford, Ryan Walker and Brian Blair. Honorary pallbearers are Jamie Fortner, Michael Foster, Lennie Strow and Phillip Halpain.
