Obituary

Lonnie Benjamin Enkey was born August 31, 1929 in Leach, Delaware County, Oklahoma, the second child of Claude Argalia and Olive Freeman Enkey. He was a lifelong resident of the Clear Creek area near Hulbert, OK. Lon worked for the MJ Lee Construction Company for 26 years, retiring in 1998. His occupations varied through his life from crop harvesting in California and wheat harvesting across Oklahoma and Kansas in his early years, then later as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic. He ran a farm and became the shop superintendant in charge of overseeing all maintenance and repairs of the bridge building equipment for M. J. Lee Construction in Tulsa until retirement He had a tremendously positive impact in the lives of both his family and his community. Lon's heart and his home were open to anyone in need. He performed countless acts of charity and service to friends and strangers alike. He worked all of his life, leaving school to work in the fields with his father before reaching the sixth grade. Lon never saw an engine or mechanical contraption that he couldn't or hadn't broken down and put back together, as good as new. His mind was always focused on his next project, the next tractor to be repaired, the next fence to be mended. Lon's physical strength was legendary. He could carry a bale of hay in each hand and toss them up 5 rows high to his little brother Bill on the top of the truck. He once loaded a 500 pound train engine part by himself, amazing the workers at the salvage yard who saw it happen. He was a hero to his younger brothers and to many of the kids in his neighborhood. Despite his impressive physical strength, he was the most gentle of men. He was a man of few words. His actions are what made an impression on you. He was generous with his time, his mechanical knowledge, his money and his peaceful spirit. As far as we can tell, no one ever heard Lon utter a swear word or raise his voice in anger. He was a devoted church member of the Prairie View Pentecostal Holiness Church for over 40 years. Lon died early Sunday, November 6, 2011 at his home at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 6 days. He was preceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Mary Burch Enkey, who died in February 2000; son Ronnie Krieg, who died in Viet Nam in July 1971, and sister Opal Willis, who died in 2006. He is survived by his children: Deborah Ann Sumrall of Broken Arrow, Ruby Krieg Danson of Hulbert, and Jeffrey Glen Enkey of Hulbert; by his younger siblings, Zona Siler of Wagoner, Bill Enkey of Peggs, Alzada Burch of Wagoner and Sam D. Enkey of Pensacola, FL.; by his 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends.
