Obituary

Lonzo Leonard "Lonnie" Hakes was born on January 12, 1929 in the Prairie View Community West of Hulbert to Leonard and Victoria Hakes. He passed away on Thursday, September 12, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family. He married Wanda Louise Smith on June 4, 1951, at Prairie View Church and they made their home in the Hulbert area for sixty-two years. Lonnie was a welder and a member of Ironworkers Local #584 in Tulsa, Oklahoma for 34 years. After retiring from Ironworking, he managed the CD Ranch on Clear Creek for 8 years. After retiring a 2nd time, he and Wanda made their home in the Lost City Community where he enjoyed raising cattle, team roping and watching fastpitch softball. He enjoyed spending time with his family and Sunday dinners was his time to shine and tell stories to his favorite girls. Lonnie attended Victory House of Praise Church in Hulbert; he accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior on November 9, 2008. He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Victoria Hakes, one infant brother, and six sisters, Tansalee Manes, Wilma Jewett, Lennie Ford, Lois Halpain, Corine Myers, Ruby Thomas and one step- grandson, Ricky Lee. Lonnie is survived by his loving wife, Wanda; children, Vickie (Jerry) Daniels, Dean (Karen) Hakes, Danny (Annette) Hakes, all of Hulbert and Janet Hakes Barnes of Muskogee; six grandchildren; Jeffrey Daniels, Jamie Tannehill, Amanda Hakes, Bobbie Carey, Dan Allen Hakes, and Callie Anne Barnes; two step-grandchildren; Kim Scott and Bandy Barnes; seven great grandchildren, one sister, Bessie Forrest and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. The family would like to extend a special thank you to the hospice providers, Trina, Kim, Tammy and Rachael. Funeral Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on September 16, 2013, at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner, Oklahoma with Pastor David Jones officiating. Pallbearers will be Brian Washington, Brian Tannehill, Scott Manes, Clue Anderson, Eugene Adair, and Chris "Lamont" Brown. Honorary pallbearers are James Manes, Phillip Halpain, Perry Stevenson, Eugene Myers, Jack Young, Ronnie Smith, Charles Jewett, Billy Dee Welch, and John Halpain. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F Cemetery in Hulbert, Oklahoma under the direction of Mallett Funeral Home.
