Tahlequah

Lou Ann Reeves, lovingly known to many as “Grandma,” departed this life on Thursday, May 14, 2026, at Northeastern Health System in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, surrounded by the love and comfort of her family. She was 91 years old, a life beautifully lived and deeply cherished by those fortunate enough to know her.

Lou Ann was born on May 20, 1934, in Muskogee, Oklahoma, to Rufus Smith and Edith (Falwell) Smith. She grew up with a strong spirit, determination, and kindness that would remain with her throughout her life. Lou Ann carried herself with quiet strength, a caring heart, and a deep devotion to those she loved most.

To know Lou Ann was to know someone who found joy in life’s simple and meaningful moments. She loved tending to her plants on the patio, carefully nurturing them with the same gentle care she gave to everyone around her. Her cats brought her companionship and comfort, and she treasured caring for them. Above all else, Lou Ann loved her family tremendously. Her greatest joy came from spending time with those she loved, making memories, and simply being “Grandma,” a role she embraced with her whole heart.

In her younger years, Lou Ann was remarkably talented in both basketball and tennis. A gifted athlete, she proudly ranked third in the state in tennis, an accomplishment she always held close to her heart. She and her sister were also talented basketball players who advanced to the state tournament, where their team fought hard before being defeated in the semifinals, a memory Lou Ann proudly reflected upon through the years.

Lou Ann was a woman of compassion and devotion, always placing others before herself. She had a caring nature that touched many lives and a love for her family that knew no limits. Her home and heart were always open, and her presence brought comfort, wisdom, and unconditional love to those around her. Though her family’s hearts are heavy with loss, they find peace in knowing her legacy of love will continue through the many lives she touched.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Rufus and Edith Smith; her beloved husband, Howard Reeves; and her sister, Ruth Posey Mead.

Those left to cherish and honor her memory include her children, John Reeves of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and Jay Reeves and wife, Dede, of Tenkiller Harbor; her grandchildren, Tosha Reeves-McKinney, Jason Reeves and wife, Cherilyn, and Tyler Reeves and wife, Shannon; her great-grandchildren, Bailey Turner and husband, Kylo, James Wood, Gage Wood, Ayden Wood, Paisley Flowers, and Maverick Reeves; her great-great-children, Gabrielle Rowland, Kyra Turner, Kylo Turner Jr., Nora Wood, Vayda Wood, and Ella Wood; along with many other relatives, dear friends, and loved ones who will forever treasure the memories they shared with her.

Lou Ann loved deeply and was deeply loved in return. Her family will miss her immensely, but her kindness, strength, and unwavering love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
