Obituary

The funeral service for Mamie Leota Smith, 91, of Hulbert, OK, will be at 2 PM Tueasday, July 8, 2008 at the Mallett Chapel in Wagoner. Officiating will be the Reverend David Jones and the Reverend Clayton Sellers. Pallbearers will be Dean Hakes, Danny Hakes, Harley Lee Smith, Johnny Halpain, Roy Smith and Kim Lay. Honorary Pallbearers will be Michael Smith, Cody Smith, Josh Girdner, Jeffrey Daniels, Dan Allen Hakes, Leslie Hall, Jeremy Hall, Michael Bass, Jonathan Bass, Ricky Lee and Jerod Sellers. Mamie Leota Smith was born October 1, 1916 in Ada, OK to Benjamin Buchanan and Pearl Ellen (Yarbrough) Maxville. At an early age she lived in Arkansas before moving to the Wagoner and Hulbert areas, where she would live most of her life. On November 4, 1933, Mamie married Harley Smith, a union lasting 61 years. Mamie was a homemaker and loved to share her wonderful skills of quilting and gardening. She loved to read and would educate herself at every opportunity. Mamie was a faithful member of the Pentecostal faith. Surrounded by her family, she passed this life Saturday, July 5, 2008 at her home in rural Cherokee County. Mamie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harley in 1995; her sons, Bobby Smith in 1973 and Michael Smith in 1974 and by her two brothers and three sisters. She is survived by her son, Ronnie Smith and his wife, Janette, of Hulbert; her daughters, Wanda Hakes and her husband, Lonnie, of Hulbert, Juanita Rogers of Wagoner and Betty Halpain and her husband, John, of Tahlequah; twenty grandchildren; thirt-nine great grandchildren; nineteen great great grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and a host of friends.
