Mary Margie Barnett Semore was born February 11, 1920 in Cowlington, Oklahoma to William Leonard and Bessie Mae (Bellah) Barnett. Margie was baptized in 1932 in the Grand River at the age of 12 and joined the Yellow Springs Methodist Church in Booth Bend, Wagoner County. She was currently a member of the First United Methodist Church in Wagoner. Margie was the Salutatorian of the Wagoner High School Class of 1938. She married Jack Semore March 3, 1940 in Gore, Oklahoma. Margie and Jack established their first home on State Street in Wagoner and lived there for 12 years before moving to the Gaylor Bend area at Whitehorn Cove, where they lived for 25 years. In 1983 they purchased the Ben Hays home in Wagoner, and Margie lived there until her death. She began working at the Wagoner County Abstract Co. in September, 1941 and worked consistently until she became the sole owner in 1977. Margie's focus was her business, but her passions were in preserving Wagoner's heritage and maintaining the genealogy of her family. Her historical interest in the community was expressed in many of her activities in later life. She generously provided a space for the senior citizens group to meet in the old Rogers building on Cherokee, one of many properties she owned and helped establish the Semore Park in downtown Wagoner in 2000. Margie was devoted to numerous organizations and projects, including the Daughters of American Revolution, Daughters of American Colonists, American Legion Auxiliary, Clan Morrison Society of North America (a reflection of Margie's Scottish roots), Wagoner County Historical Society, Three Forks Genealogy Society, Wagoner County Cattlemen's Association, Oklahoma Cattlemen's Association, Wagoner Chamber of Commerce where she was inducted into the Chamber's Hall of Fame and served as Grand Marshall of the Christmas Parade. Margie was a supporter of the Wagoner Area Neighbors and the Wagoner Junior Livestock Show and an honorary member. Margie Semore departed this life on Monday, December 14, 2015 in Tulsa, Oklahoma at the age of 95 years, 10 months and 3 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Jack Semore, and his brothers; her sister, Dorothy Foster; two infant brothers, Paul L. Barnett and Wendell L. Barnett; a nephew, Bill Foster, and niece, Bonnie Drake. Survivors include: niece, Joyce Fields and her husband, Jerry; two grand nephews, Jeff Fields and his wife, Kelli, and Jason Fields; a great-grandnephew, Chase Fields; a great-grandniece, Kelsi Fields; niece, Elouise Norman and her husband, Marlin; niece Janelle Semore; a host of other relatives and friends; and her beloved dog, Muffy. A Visitation will be held from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 P.M. Sunday at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner. The Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M. Monday, December 21, 2015 at the First United Methodist Church in Wagoner. The Reverend James Hollifield and the Reverend Will Smith will officiate. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner. Pallbearers will be Michael Cantrell, Juan Castro, Pete Clark, Mike Hickman, Keith Sherrill, and Pete Troulakis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Larry Hall, David Hays, John Jackson, Roy Moore, Marlin Norman, and Enos Semore.
