Marilyn Hefner

Marilyn Sue Hefner passed from this life on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Eastgate Care and Rehab Center in Muskogee, Oklahoma, at the age of 75.

Marilyn was born on March 11, 1951, in Wagoner, Oklahoma, to William “Bud” Dearl Hefner and Ethel Mildred (Taff) Hefner. She grew up in Wagoner and graduated from Wagoner High School with the Class of 1969.

Marilyn was a dedicated dispatcher for the Wagoner Police Department for many years. She was outspoken, quick-witted, and never left anyone wondering where they stood with her. Marilyn took her job seriously and was known to keep the officers in line. If a new officer happened to give her a little attitude, she was not afraid to straighten them out right over the radio.

Although Marilyn had a strong personality, she also had a caring heart. She later made her home in Tahlequah, Oklahoma, where she lived for approximately 25 years with her husband, Jim Cole, whom she cared for deeply.

Marilyn enjoyed crocheting, needlepoint, making jewelry and beadwork, and creating afghans. She also enjoyed mowing her lawn and shopping at Walmart and Hobby Lobby. Her beloved dog, Daisy, was a faithful companion and held a special place in Marilyn’s heart.

Marilyn will be remembered for her honesty, determination, creativity, and unforgettable personality. She lived life on her own terms and was never afraid to speak her mind.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, William “Bud” and Ethel Hefner; her husband, Jim Cole; her sister, Marsha Thompson; and her brothers, Jerry Hefner and Chris Hefner.

Those left to cherish her memory include her brother and sister-in-law, Keith Hefner and Bonnie Sue Hefner; her brother-in-law, Dan Thompson; several nieces and nephews; extended family members; and many friends who knew and loved Marilyn

Marilyn leaves behind a lifetime of stories, memories, and moments that will continue to be shared by those who knew her best. Her absence will be deeply felt, and she will be greatly missed by her family, friends, and all whose lives were touched by hers.

A Celebration of Life honoring Marilyn will be held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm in the Chapel of Mallett Funeral Home.  Family and friends are invited to come together during this time to share stories, special memories, and the good times they shared with Marilyn as they remember a life that meant so much to so many.
