Jerome Marcus Day, Jr. was born August 19, 1949 in Wagoner, OK to Jerome Marcus "Jerry" and Mary (Sullivan) Day. Following his graduation from Wagoner High School where Mark was quarterback to the football team, he attended and graduated from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, OK. Mark served in the Oklahoma National Guard for a number of years.
His career in law enforcement spanned 26 years. He served as Wagoner County Deputy Sheriff and was Undersheriff to Johnny Cannon, as well as Wagoner Chief of Police.
His interests were many, especially anything to do with automobiles, expressed in his love for antique cars and attending car show. He established and successfully operated Mark's Quick Lube in Wagoner for several years.
Mark loved sports of all kinds. His son, Greg has many fond memories of his Dad coaching every sport he was involved in as a child. He also was an avid golfer and was club champion at Sequoyah State Park more than once.
Mark's other interests included his collection of knives and his love for riding his Harley-Davidson.
He was a lifelong Wagoner resident, and a friend to many. Those who knew Mark knew he had strong Republican opinions he liked to share. Mark accepted the Lord into his heart in 1980. In 1976 he became a member of Masonic Lodge No. 98 in Wagoner and served as Worshipful Master in 1986.
Mark departed this life on Saturday, July 23, 2016 at his home in Wagoner. He was preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Matthew Day; his father, Jerome Marcus "Jerry" Day; his brother Michael Gerald "Mike" Day; his grandparents, and all of his aunts, Luella Fisher, Viva Dean Baker, Dorothy McDaniel and Joyce Wilkey-Lemley.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Day; his son, Greg Day; grandson, Cobey Sean Taylor; his wife of nineteen years, Janiece Day; niece, Allison Day; grand-niece, Annalise Elizabeth Day; niece, Erin Rojas; two uncles, Vernon Sullivan and Franklin Sullivan; numerous cousins, other relatives and friends.
Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM Friday, July 29, 2016 at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory in Wagoner. The Reverend Willie Rice will officiate. Honorary Pallbearers will Johnny Cannon, Kevin Cobb, Larry Coates, Jack Freeman, Mark Hatfield, Jerry Ingram, Charles Lea, Rick Meyers, J. C. Pena, David Sullivan, and Keith Williams.
