IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Martha Sue
Atchley
October 13, 1941 – February 6, 2023
Sue was born at home on October 13, 1941 in Chouteau, OK to Bill and Flossie Croft. She went to be with the Lord and her love on February 6, 2023.
Her childhood gave her many wonderful memories full of love and laughter, growing up with ornery and fun loving parents, siblings, and other family members.
She was a member of the Chouteau United Methodist Church where she met the love of her life, Jerry Atchley in 1959, and they were married on June 29, 1962. After moving around a few times they eventually settled in Claremore, OK where Sue worked as a child care giver and baker of many cakes. In 1976, they moved to Mazie, OK to take care of Jerry's grandmother and farm. They became members of the First Christian Church in Wagoner, OK where Sue taught Sunday school and served as a deaconess for many years.
Eventually Sue started having health problems with her colon which allowed her to become the first woman to have an experimental surgery. Several more surgeries and procedures followed over the years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, both parents, four sisters, and many other relatives.
She is survived by daughter Ginger and husband, Robert of Melbourne Beach, FL; son Les and wife, Dawn of Chouteau, OK; brother, Homer Croft and wife, Dian of Chouteau, OK; sister, Linda Moon of Pryor, OK; brother, Forrest (Bill) Croft of El Cajon, CA; grandchildren, Mikala, Keeli, Nate, Dustin, Ritchie, Breanna, Kameron and Will, Brandt and Eli; great grandchildren, Hallie, Grayson, and a baby girl on the way in May, as well as many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Sue was one of the strongest, most loving, and stubborn women we've ever known.
God blessed us with her presence for 81 wonderful years. She will be greatly missed, but forever in our hearts.
Friends and family will gather on Friday , February 17, 2023, for a Visitation at 10 AM, followed by the Memorial Service to celebrate Sue's life at 11 AM, both at First Christian Church in Wagoner, OK. The Reverend Dr. Richard Allen will officiate.
