Martha Marie (Jennings) Kyle was born on August 21, 1916 in Shirley, Arkansas and died at the age of 98 on September 9, 2014, in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Martha Kyle was the daughter of Grover Cleveland Jennings and Arkadelphia Davis, and the granddaughter of David Hunter Jennings and Minnie Mae Martin, and of James Clinton Davis and Mattie Alice Boone, all of Van Buren County, Arkansas. Martha Jennings and Royal Ted Kyle were married on March 13, 1942 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Mrs. Kyle was predeceased by her parents and her husband, Ted Kyle (1989), by her son Hugh Kyle (2013), by brothers Keith Jennings, Ivan Jennings, and Royal Jennings, a sister Mima Jennings, and a grandson Brad Brumnett. Mrs. Kyle is survived by her daughter, Karen Kyle Harlow and husband David Harlow, with whom she lived in recent years; a daughter-in-law, Kathryn Kyle; grandchildren and their families, Brett Brumnett and wife Monica, Brandon Brumnett and wife Stephanie, Jeff Kyle and wife Mary, Laura Lynn Kyle, Scot Harlow and wife Tracy, Ian Harlow and wife Brandie, and Brad Harding; sisters-in-law, Ann Jennings of Elmira, New York and Maxine Jennings of Wagoner, Oklahoma; nephews and nieces, James Jennings, Charles Jennings, Robert Jennings, Janet Fielding, Kemi Taylor, Kent Jennings; 13 great grandchildren, Eli, Tate, Bailee, Jory, and Maggie Brumnett, Shanna, Jackson, and Nathan Kyle, Hayden, Josie, Alex, and Abbie Harlow, and Jacie Harding; and extended family members, "sister" Jonalou Pinnel, Sue and Jack Hamilton, and John Harvey. During her childhood she lived in the community of Bee Branch, Arkansas, attended school in Shirley, Arkansas, and then completed high school in Wagoner as a graduate of the Class of 1934. Mrs. Kyle was a basketball player for Wagoner High School during the 1933 and 1934 school years. She worked for many years at the grocery store owned by her parents in Wagoner, the Ben Franklin 5 and 10 cent store, and also at stores owned by the Kraker and Jeffers Families. Mrs. Kyle also worked for the Wagoner Public Schools as one of the first cooks hired for the lunch program there. Mrs. Kyle was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Wagoner, she was the first woman to chair the Administrative Council for the church, and she was very active in the United Methodist Women for many years. She was also a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class, and continued to sing in the chancel choir for 82 years. She was well known in the area as a friend to all with whom she came in contact, always polite, offering words of encouragement, and helpful to those in need. Martha is a wonderful example of a Christian, having followed as well as she could the teachings of Jesus Christ. The family wishes to thank the Reverends Jim Hollifield and Yvonne Buchanan of the First United Methodist Church of Wagoner; Chaplain Mark Simpson, Drew Blaine, Rosie Hunter, Jean Allen, and the other staff members of the Life Transitions Hospice; and the staff members of Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner for their assistance. The funeral service for Mrs. Kyle will be on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the First United Methodist Church of Wagoner at 10:00 am. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Thursday evening at Mallett Funeral Home.
