Obituary

Funeral services for Mary Jean Dodson, 83, long-time resident of Wagoner, will be held at 10 a. m. Monday, April 9, 2012 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner, with the Reverend Carl Murphy officiating. The family will be present for a Visitation on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. Mary was born April 14, 1928 in Du Quoin, Illinois to Robert and Ruth Thorpe. She grew up and attended school in Illinois, later marrying Phenoia Allen Dodson. Together they travelled with his work all over the country before settling in Oklahoma in the mid 1950's. Mary worked for several years as a charge nurse in a nursing home. She always put being a homemaker to her family first. She was a past president and member of the Red Hat Society, and her hobbies included ceramics, crafts and quilting. Mary and her family have been huge fans of pro-wrestling and enjoyed watching together. Mary passed away peacefully Thursday, April 5, 2012 at her Wagoner home, surrounded by her loving family. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, P.A. Dodson in 1979; two brothers, Charles and Robert Thorpe and a sister, Pearl Danberry. She is survived by her children and their spouses, Mark and Brenda Dodson of Muskogee, Ruth and Terry Beck of Wagoner, P.A. and Phyllis Dodson of Brownsboro, TX,, May Jean Shackel of Sand Springs, Vernie and Terri Dodson of Bixby and Barney Dodson of Wagoner; her seventh child' and granddaughter, Tammy Boswell of Wagoner; other grandchildren, Mark, Lisa Elizabeth, Bobby, Kathryn, Jason, Tina, Sara, Courtney, Lindsey, Valerie, Lakeisha, Emily and Stephanie; twenty great-grandchildren; three step great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marshall Thorpe of Chatham, IL and Darrell Thorpe of Du Quoin, IL; one sister, Barbara Harshey of DuQuoin, IL; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Mary's sons and grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Interment will be in the Bennett Addition of Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner. Arrangements are by Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner
