Obituary

The funeral service for Opal Guthrie will be at 2 PM Thursday, July 3, 2008 at the Church of Christ in Porter. Officiating will be Mr. Roger De Loach. The eulogy will be given by Mr. Roy Essary. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Porter. Pallbearers will be Matt Cole, Ben Cole, Tom Brewer, Jon Brewer, Chris Boyd and Nathan Boyd. Mary Opal Thomas Guthrie was born March 14, 1922 in Porter, OK to James L.D. and Dora Jean (Parker) Thomas. She graduated from Porter High School in 1940 and was a lifelong resident of Porter. Opal was a Sunday School teacher at the Church of Christ and a member of the Porter Lions Club and the Springhill Home Demonstration Club. Some of Opal's favorite activities included gardening, sewing, baking and cake decorating. Opal died Tuesday, July 1, 2008 in Tulsa at the age of 86 years, 3 months and 17 days. She will be greatly missed by the Porter community and her family and friends. Opal is survived by her son, Kent Guthrie of Tulsa; two grandchildren, Elizabeth Guthrie and Robert Guthrie, both of Tulsa; a sister, Velma Mizel, and brother, Arnold Thomas, of Yakima, WA; many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends, including her special friend, Weldon Hale. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, R. J. Guthrie in 1996, and eight brothers and sisters.
