Obituary

Mary Sue White was born December 17, 1931 in Wagoner County, Oklahoma to Osa Lee (Martin) and J. W. Yates Sr. She graduated from Wagoner High School. On July 19, 1949 Mary Sue married Louis A. White and they began a long, happy life together. Mary Sue's interests were in activities centered on her family and church. She was a Girl Scout leader for eight years, worked at Sears in Girl Scout Department, and served as PTA President at Sequoyah Elementary School in Tulsa. She and her husband were Church Youth Sponsors at Rogers Heights Christian Church in Tulsa, Broadway Christian Church in Tucson, Hickman Mills Christian Church in Kansas City, First Christian Church in Amarillo and First Christian Church in Wagoner. She was a Sunday school teacher of youth and children and served as Co-chair of the Education Department in Amarillo, Wagoner and Tulsa. Singing was a special gift Mary Sue shared in all of the church choirs, and she participated in the bell choir at Yale Avenue Christian Church in Tulsa. Mary Sue loved spectator sports, especially the ones with the grandchildren, and enjoyed all the activities, including soccer, football, baseball, wrestling, volleyball, track and field (shot put) and dance activities. She and Louis attended national dance competitions with Tresina in New York City, Las Vega, New Orleans, Nashville and Orlando. She had a love of all music and band activities and loved to travel, fish and camp. Mary Sue enjoyed meeting people everywhere, in every walk of life. Sue and Louis, while living in Tucson, AZ, sponsored two students and their families from Sudan, Africa and two students for a summer from Okinawa, Japan who were studying English and studying at the University of Arizona. Mary Sue departed this life to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, on Monday, July 27, 2009, near Odessa, MO where she had been making her home. She was preceded death by her parents, four brothers, Harley, Cecil, Vernon and Doyle Yates and by two sisters, Rema Stephens and Wilma Spears. She is survived by her loving husband of sixty years, Louis A. White of the home; two daughters, Teresa Anne Begemann of Odessa, and Carol Sue Scruggs of Haines City, FL; four grandchildren, Tresina Begemann Alvested and Carrie Begemann, both of Odessa, Greg Stump of Broken Arrow, OK and Sean Stump of Tulsa, OK; five great-grandchildren, McKayla Stump, Keller Stump, Trinity Alvested, Ashley Stump and Fiorella Bonino-Stump; a brother and his wife, J.W Yates, Jr. and Rosemary of Wagoner; a sister, Jerrie Payne of Shawnee; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, August 1, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Wagoner. The Reverend Greg Smith and the Reverend Anna Shirey will officiate. Pallbearers will be Greg Stump, Wayne Feterly, Sean Stump, Jarret Philpot, Jason Philpot and Jim White. Honorary Pallbearers will be Scott Alversted, Larry Philpot, Tresina Alvested, Carrie Begemann, Tracey Stump and Amparo Stump. Interment will be in Elmwood Cemetery, Wagoner. Memorial donations may be made to the Building Fund of First Christian Church, 415 N.E. 2nd Street, Wagoner, OK 74467, or the Alzheimer's Association c/o Heart of America, 3846 West 75th Street, Prairie Village, KS 66208.
