Melvin Gregory Trosclair was born January 4, 1918 in Scott, Louisiana. He was born into a large family where all contributed, and so at an early age Melvin began working with his dad on a fishing boat near Biloxi, Mississippi. He later joined the United States Army and served heroically during World War II, in France and Germany, and later in the Korean War. He was the recipient of many medals, including the Purple Heart. His family is very proud of his dedicated service record. Melvin married the former Freddie Lee Kennon on July 9, 1943. They met while he was on leave in Tulsa from Fort Polk, and they enjoyed a long and happy life together throughout their more than 68 years of marriage. Melvin was a mail carrier for the United States Postal Service in Tulsa, OK before his retirement. He and Freddie moved to Wagoner forty-one years ago. He has been a steadfast member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wagoner. Melvin was affectionately known by family and friends as Papa'. All will miss him very much. Melvin died Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at Saint Francis Hospital in Tulsa, Ok, one month past his 94th birthday. He was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings and a son-in-law, Gary Wetzel. Survivors include his loving wife, Freddie Trosclair; two daughters, Jackie Wetzel of Wagoner and Donna Elbon of Wagoner; five grandchildren, Frankie Trosclair, Lisa Tye, Steve Erwin, Mike Elbon and Anne Elbon; great-grandchildren, Taylor and Elliott Gordon, Daniel, Craig and Karen Tye, Justin and Evan Erwin and Mikayla Brewer; one great great-granddaughter, Bradlee Gordon; other relatives and friends. A wake service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday evening at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wagoner. The funeral mass will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross. The Reverend Father Joseph Orthel and Deacon Jim Ruyle will serve as the officiates. Family members will serve as pallbearers. The committal service and interment will be at 12 noon at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. The VFW Honor Guard, District 5 Rifle Team from Tulsa, Ok will be present to perform military honors.
