Obituary

Meredith Kaye (England) Zehr was born January 3, 1942 in Stafford, KS to Clifford and Marjorie (Anderson) England. She grew up in the small town of Greensburg, KS, later moving with her family to Abilene, KS where she attended high school and made many lifelong friends.

Meredith married Larry Zehr on August 27, 1966. They shared a loving marriage for thirty-six years and were blessed with four children, Kristin, Kasey, Kory and Kelli. Meredith's family will cherish many memories of her. Her family was so important to her, and she loved attending the kids and grandkids' activities. She hardly ever missed a soccer or football game, even though she had eleven grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Meredith had a strong faith and enjoyed attending mass with her family. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wagoner.

Perhaps it was Meredith's strong faith that inspired her to live her life in a manner to better the lives of those around her. Her family remembers how she was always willing to help and would do just about anything asked of her. She was a true servant leader. The Bible quote found in Matthew 7:12, one of Jesus' golden rules: "Do to others whatever you would have them do to you" is a great summary of servant leadership, characterized by the desire to serve and empower others by focusing on inspiring and enabling people to achieve their full potential.

Her quiet leadership was an inspiration to all who knew her. The City of Wagoner posted this: "Meredith did work in Wagoner that will have an impact on current and future generations. Her smile and laugh brought joy to the room, and her knowledge was unmatched…"

Meredith worked for the Red Cross for many years and enjoyed being able to regularly help those in need. She served in the Wagoner Area Chamber of Commerce for over 25 years, served as President and spent 15 years serving as the Executive Director. Upon her retirement in 2018, Meredith received recognition from the City of Wagoner, State of Oklahoma and even the U. S. House of Representatives for her years of service to the community. She served on numerous boards and committees, including the City of Wagoner Economic Development Authority. She was active in many community organizations, including Rotary Club and Lions Club.

Meredith departed this life early Sunday morning, September 3, 2023 at her home. The family is comforted in knowing that Meredith is now in the arms of Jesus and is walking the beautiful streets of Heaven. Going before her were her parents, Clifford and Marjorie England; her husband, Larry Zehr, daughter, Kelli Rankins and brother, Bruce England.

Her survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Kristin and Ron Ingalls of Springfield, MO; two sons and daughters-in-law, Kasey and Keela Zehr of Wagoner, OK and Kory and Brenda Zehr of Wagoner, OK; eleven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews; other extended family and many friends.
