Obituary

Funeral services for Michael G. Day, 54, life-long resident of Wagoner, wil be at 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 11, 2009 at the First Christian Church in Wagoner with the Reverend Thomas Schwartz officiating. Mike was born October 11, 1954 in Muskogee to Jerome Jerry' and Mary (Sullivan) Day. Mike grew up and attended school in Wagoner, graduating in 1972. Earning a basketball scholarship, he attended Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas and later transferred to Northeastern State University in Tahlequah where he also played and earned his Bachelor's Degree. He was a basketball coach for Wagoner Public Schools and taught science at Wagoner Middle School until his retirement. Mike was a member of the Masonic Lodge and a member of the First Christian Church in Wagoner since 1966. Mike was generous in sharing his knowledge and experience in the many subjects in which he was passionate. He read and studied his family's Native American heritage. He was interested in archery and firearms, and along with others, instituted the Rocket Program in Wagoner and neighboring schools. He loved music, especially the guitar, which he taught free to anyone who was interested. On May 5, surrounded by family, Mike passed away at his home near Wagoner. Mike was preceded in death by his father; his grandparents, Marcus and Marie Day and Grover and Velma Sullivan and by his nephew, Jeffrey Day. He is survived by his wife, Patti Day of the home; two daughters, Erin Rojas and her husband, Aaron of Amarillo, Texas and Allison Day of the home; his mother, Mary Day of Wagoner; two grandchildren, Noah Marcus and Ava Elizabeth Rojas; his brother, Mark Day and his wife, Lora also of Wagoner; many other loving relatives and caring friends. Pallbearers for Mike will be Bill Homan, Steve Wilkey, Carl (Jim) Baker, Dan Sullivan, Aaron Rojas, John Leach, Ron Morris and Roger Hayes. Honorary pallbearers ware Joel Haas, Mark Spriggs, Otto Deacon, Kenny Wilkey, Bruce Day, Ralph Porter and Robbie Wassom. On-line condolences for Mike may be left on at www.mallettfuneralhome.com. Funeral rites will be performed by the Masonic Lodge # 98 of Wagoner. Funeral arrangements and interment in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner are under the direction of Mallett Funeral Home of Wagoner.
