Minnie Mae Merrill was born February 12, 1922 in Hulbert, Oklahoma to M.G. and Martha Lousenda (Pergeson) Jenkins. She moved to Porter at an early age and made her home there most of her life. Minnie was a longtime active member of the First Baptist Church. She tended the church nursery for more than 50 years and always helped with Vacation Bible School and cooked for the churches activities, including church camp. She volunteered many hours visiting others in the nursing homes and hospitals. Minnie's family remembers how she made sure they too attended Sunday school and VBS while they were growing up. Minnie departed this life on Monday, October 21, 2013 at Country Side Nursing Home in Warner, OK at the age of 91. In 1985 she was preceded in death by her husband, Albert Merrill, to whom she was married 43 years. She was also preceded in death by nine of her siblings. Survivors include her children and their families: Al and Alice Merrill of Washington, and their children, Austin and Alisa; Del and Sharon Merrill of Porter and their children, Jeff, Steven and Megan; Pansy and Dan Voss of Springfield, Missouri and their children, Dana, Shelley and Amber; and Mary Lou O'Neal of Muskogee and her children, Travis and Angela. She is also survived by twenty-one great grandchildren; two brothers, Andy Jenkins of Paris, Texas and Johnny Jenkins of Muskogee; a sister, Mary Morgan of Carlsbad, New Mexico; a special friend, John Fields of Porter; and other relatives and friends. A visitation was held Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Mallett Funeral Home in Wagoner, who was in charge of arrangements. The funeral service was held at Porter First Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 24, 2013. Minnie's nephew, the Reverend Bobby Jenkins, and the Reverend Dennis Percy officiated. Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery in Porter. Pallbearers were Justin O'Neal, Levi Patterson, Wyatt O'Neal, Jeff Merrill, Jim Shieldnight, Lanny Fields and Mike Fields
