Obituary

Graveside funeral services for Myrtle E. Pitman, 86 of Oklahoma City were held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 10 in Elmwood Cemetery in Wagoner with the Reverend Carl Murphy officiating. Myrtle was born June 12, 1925 in Gaylor Bend, Oklahoma to Ura Lee and William Eversole. She grew up in Gaylor Bend, Wagoner and Muskogee areas. She was given the nickname Shady' by her older sister, Poly, because childhood illnesses kept her under the shade tree while her siblings worked the fields. She attended Muskogee Central High School through the 10th grade. On Feb. 28, 1942, she married Russell Dale Pitman and to this union, a son, Ronnie Dale Pitman was born. Myrtle began working at Woolworth Dept. Store in Muskogee and later went to work for Manhattan Construction, ultimately in the Accounting Dept. She was admired for her independence and her achievements, especially when she returned to school and obtained her GED while in her 50's. Myrtle was high energy' and enjoyed square dancing, the Dallas Cowboys, hamburgers and buying fabric at Hancock's, but most of all she loved the time spent with her family. She was taken from this life Sunday, Nov. 6 after a long battle with Alzheimer's. Myrtle was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Otis and Robert Eversole and by a sister, Polly Bullock. She is survived by her son, Ron Pitman an his wife, Laura of Oklahoma City; a grandson, Vance Pitman and wife, Leslie and great-grandchildren, Gavin and Ian of Springdale, Arkansas; granddaughter, Rhonda Pitman of Los Angeles, California; a brother, Max Eversole of Muskogee; a sister, Anna Lee and husband, Joe Ray of San Antonio, TX; sister-in-law, May Beth Eversole; brother-in-law, Bob Bullock; dearest cousins, Mary Jo and Don Taylor of Foley, Alabama and Barbara Eversole of Tulsa; dearest niece, Londa and husband Ron Cox of Tahlequah and a host of other nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends. The family would like to thank the staff at South Park East Nursing Home and Crossroads Hospice for their exceptional care and comfort provided the family during her final years.
