Norma Jean (Meyer) Thurman Day was born July 19, 1926 in Farmington, Missouri to John and Emma (Pritchett) Meyer. Following high school graduation Norma attended nursing school at St. Johns Mercy in St. Louis, where she earned her nursing diploma and then began a career as a registered nurse. Through the years Norma cared for patients in a variety of settings, including public health and hospital care.
In 1976 Norma and her husband, George Thurman, moved to Wagoner, OK. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church from then until the present.
Norma died early Thursday morning, October 4, 2018, in Muskogee, Oklahoma at the age of 92 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Thurman, in 2005. Others who preceded her in death include a son, Paul Thurman, grandson, Paul Austin; great-granddaughter, Haley McClintock and three brothers.
Survivors include her husband, Stanley Earl Day. whom she married in July, 2007; four children and their spouses, Allen and Phyllis Thurman of Corinth, Mississippi, Pamela and Edward Austin of Springdale, Arkansas, Mark and Pamela Thurman of Muskogee, Oklahoma and Renee and Phillip Atkison of Allen, Texas; her daughter-in-law, Jodi Thurman of Hewitt, Texas; nine grandchildren, Kendra Williams, Paul Thurman Jr., Jonathan Thurman, Drew Thurman, Elizabeth Lohman, Megan Atkison, Nathan Atkison, Tiffany Cooper and Leslie Moore; twelve great-grandchildren; two stepchildren and their spouses, Tammy Earlene and Mike Peoples and Bryan Earl and Brenda Day, and their extended families; other family and friends.
Viewing will be Sunday from 2:00-6:00 pm, with the Rosary beginning at 6:00 pm at Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory. The Reverend Deacon Jim Ruyle will officiate.
The Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 am Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Wagoner. The Reverend Father Leo Ahanotu will officiate.
Interment will be in Pioneer Cemetery in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Pallbearers will be Michael Lohman, Phillip Atkison, Nathan Atkison, Ryan Austin, Corey Austin and Jeron Tull.
