Oleta Eden Lawhorn passed away early Friday, September 26, 2014, at her home in Wagoner. Oleta was born on July 3, 1934 in Etta, a small community in Cherokee County, OK, to Cecil Eden and Lucille (Stewart) Eden. After high school graduation Oleta attended nursing school in Muskogee, OK. She worked as an LPN until her retirement in 1974. Oleta enjoyed living in different locations as her husband's military career allowed, making homes in Florida, Virginia and California. When the children were in school Oleta stayed in the Dewey and Wagoner areas, serving as both mother and father to Bill and Kathy. Her children fondly recall how she always placed her family's needs before her own. Oleta leaves behind her son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Nancy Lawhorn of Copan, OK; her daughters, Kathy Peebles of Wagoner; three grandchildren, Ashley Lynne Lawhorn, Wesley Dale Lawhorn and Anthony Peebles; three brothers, James Eden, Glin Eden and Charles Eden; two sisters, Juanita Schaeffer and Hazel Smith; other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Dale Lawhorn, on June 24, 2014, and by her parents. The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. The Reverend Greg Cox will officiate. Interment will be in Fort Gibson National Cemetery, Fort Gibson, OK.
