The funeral service for Opal Louise Fortner, 91, a lifelong Hulbert area resident, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at the Mallett Funeral Home Chapel in Wagoner. The Reverend Sam Keener will officiate. A Visitation will be held Monday evening from 5-7 p.m. Opal was born August 12, 1922 in Hulbert, OK to Ada Leola and Robert Wilson Thornhill. She graduated from Hulbert High School in 1939 and married Frank Fortner on April 27, 1939 in Tahlequah, OK. Opal enjoyed a long and happy life. She liked all things about the outdoors, including flowers, gardening, cows and horses, and always enjoyed visiting with friends. Opal's family will always cherish the memories of her loving care of all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, who will all miss her dearly. Opal Fortner departed this life at her home on February 14, 2014. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Frank Fortner; two grandchildren, Michael Adair and Janice Botts; two sisters, Brooxie Hunt and Edna Deatherage; and a brother, Bill Thornhill. Survivors include her children and their spouses, Barbara and Sam Adair, James Frank Jr. and Susan Fortner, Betty and Bobby Botts, and Mary Ann and Dewey Keener, all of Hulbert; one brother, Floyd Thornhill; ten grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; and ten great great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends. Interment will be in I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Hulbert. Pallbearers will be Chester Bailey, Gary Foster, Carl Jones, Bobby Mayfield, Jackie Mayfield and Mark Walker.
