Pennie Allene (Rankins) Shelton was born August 27, 1964 in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Sanford Lee Rankins and Dorothy (Sowers) Rankins. She was one of four children, including her sisters, Pam and Kathy and brother, Dale Sanford.
Pennie’s life centered on work and family. She was employed for many years in the dry cleaning and laundry industry and later was employed at Wagoner Care Center. She most recently was a valued employee of Wagoner Community Hospital in Wagoner where she worked in the Housekeeping Department. Her strong work ethic and dedication to a job well done will be greatly missed.
Pennie’s children, grandchildren, and extended family will forever be grateful to have had her in their lives. She loved spending time with them, especially her grandchildren. Her legacy of unconditional love and attention will live on in their lives going forward.
Pennie departed this life Tuesday morning, June 9, 2026 at her Wagoner home, following a brief illness. Although they will dearly miss her, the family has many strong, lasting memories to sustain them as the future unfolds. There is comfort to be found in the hope that, at the time of her passing, Pennie was welcomed on the other side by her parents, Sanford Lee and Dorothy Rankins and her two sisters, Pam James and Kathy Rankins.
Her loving family who survive her include her son and daughter-in-law, Sanford Ray and Tamara Rankins of Tulsa; her daughter, Stephanie Shelton of Wagoner; grandchildren, Camron Rankins, Takara Rankins, Kalea Shelton, and Nakyra Shelton; her brother, Dale Sanford Rankins; nephews, Jody Rankins, Jeffrey Rankins, Terry Lee James, and Jeremy Rankins; nieces, Toni Rankins and Ashley James; and other extended family, as well as her friends and coworkers.
The family has entrusted Mallett Funeral Home and Crematory with cremation services.
Family and friends will gather to celebrate Pennie’s life at a memorial service on Saturday, June 13, 2026, from 1 to 4 pm at Maple Park in Wagoner, OK.
