Randy Ellis Wassom, long time area rancher and waterproofing contractor, went to meet his Lord and Savior early Monday, December 16, 2019 at his home in Wagoner, OK at the age of 68 years. He was born July 29, 1951 in Wagoner, OK to Roy Robert "Bob" and Wanda Mae (Carpenter) Wassom, who preceded him in death.
In his early life Randy learned to fish along the banks of a creek behind his house with his brothers and neighbor kids. They made their own fun fishing and putting each other in barrels then rolling them down the hill. Because of his love for the outdoors Randy loved ranching life.
One of the things he always laughingly said, was, "The most important day of the year is May 15th, the first day of squirrel season." Randy got his fair share of squirrels.
He also enjoyed, buying and selling antique collectible cars.
As a youth Randy worked hauling hay and milking cows for the Ben Jones family and during the winter he would work at the feed mill for Lex Cochran, who owned the Purina Feed Store on North Main Street. When Randy turned sixteen he hauled hay for Bill Benham during the summer. The following winter he worked as a gas attendant for Lowell Lawson, forty hours a week while going through high school.
Upon graduation Randy attended Oklahoma State Tech at Okmulgee, studying drafting. He graduated from OK State Tech in 1971 and had several drafting jobs over the years. He then went to work for Air Products and Chemicals in Pryor where he had many friends who are like family. He was eventually promoted to plant manager for two air plants in Tulsa. When the contract ran out for Air Products at Gulf Oil and Ford Glass, then Randy and Susan went to work for her father at Gilbert Ranch, working there from 1986-1994, managing a Limousin cattle herd while starting their own herd. Limousin cattle friends have remained some of their very best friends throughout the years.
Over the years Randy had various jobs. He started the business, "Susan's Seasoning, Inc." in 1994 which started out as a fundraiser supporting youth such as FFA, Soccer and more including the first job for handicapped children. Randy worked a short time at Wheeler Metals and even designed one of the metal building kits that is still sold at Wheeler Metals today. He and Susan started a very successful business as Waterproofing Specialists, LLC. in 1999 through 2011 where they worked with wonderful employees that were the best of the best in Tulsa. "We were a team where Together Each Attains More". Randy and Susan also started "Imagine That, LLC." screen printing business but soon learned it wasn't something he enjoyed but had an employee who was great at it, so he sold it to her and her family. He returned to raising beautiful Braunvieh cattle.
Randy is survived by his spouse of 36 years, Susan (Gilbert) Wassom of the home; two sons, Shane Wassom and his wife, Jamie and Brandon Wassom, all of Wagoner, OK; three grandsons and a granddaughter; one great-grandson; two brothers and their spouses, Kim and Nancy Wassom of California and Rob and Lisa Wassom of Wagoner, OK; extended family and friends.
