Rita Faye (Cox) McKinney was born on November 30, 1952, in Wagoner, Oklahoma to Harold Reno and Anna Matilda (Tedder) Cox. She graduated from Porter High School. She was Miss Congeniality and 1 st runner-up for Peach Queen in 1970.
Rita married Marshall McKinney, the love of her life, on July 3, 1971. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren. They were the center of her world, and she adored caring for all of them. Rita also loved the Lord and attended church at Coweta Assembly. She read and studied her Bible every day. She was a sweet example of kindness to everyone she met.
Rita enjoyed sewing and doing other crafts. She altered prom dresses and wedding dresses for many people. She also made an abundance of quilts. She made wreaths for families to place upon the graves of loved ones for multiple cemeteries. Rita was active in 4H and FFA.
Rita departed this life Tuesday, April 11, 2023, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her Parents, Harold and Anna Cox; Brothers, Charles, Jim, Jarrell; Sisters, Edna, Ollie Nell, and Aleta; father-in-law and mother-in-law, O.A. and Myrtle McKinney; brother-in-law, Glen McClatchey; and a best friend, Linda Kilgore.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Marshall McKinney, of Porter, OK; Sons, Douglas (Mandy) of Wagoner, OK, Aaron (Danielle) of Porter, OK, Steven (Terry) of Porter, OK; grandchildren, Logan, Lane, Jarrod (Jaley), Colton, Josiah, Jaxon, Kacey (Carlie), Madison, and Jeremy; great-granddaughter, Marlie Moreland; Siblings, Donna Cox of Wagoner, OK, Peggy (Albert) Attari of Garland, TX; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family.
Visitation will be on Thursday, April 13, 2023, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Mallett Funeral Home Chapel, 417 East Cherokee St., Wagoner, OK 74467.
The service celebrating Rita's life will be held on Friday, April 14 at 10 a.m. at Coweta Assembly, 29707 E Hwy 51, Coweta, OK 74429, with Pastor Steve Lee officiating. Interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery in Porter.
