Funeral services for Ron W. Laner will be held at 1:00 p.m., Monday, Oct. 31, 2011 at the Twin Oaks Baptist Church near Wagoner with the Reverend Dr. Wesley Graver officiating. Ron was born Oct. 5, 1929 in Rogers, Arkansas to his parents, Carl A and Golda Estelle (McClendon) Laner. At an early age his family moved to Tulsa where Ron grew up and graduated from Rogers High School. He graduated from Spartan School of Aeronautics and used his knowledge while serving in the Air Force and Air Force Reserve during the Korean War. While in the military he was united in marriage to Margaret Hunt on May 23, 1951. Ron's parents had developed the Whitehorn Cove area on Lake Ft. Gibson, and after serving his country he moved his young family to the lake area near Wagoner. Ron used his skills as a mechanic to established Whitehorn Cove Marine, selling boats and repairing marine equipment for many years until his retirement in 1993. Ron's vocation was also his pastime; he loved the water and fishing, from deep-sea fishing to bass fishing. He and his family vacationed in many areas including his favorite destination, Lake Guerrero in Old Mexico. Ron also loved spending time with his family and friends while hosting fish fry's. Ron and Margaret were long-time devoted members of the Twin Oaks Baptist Church near their home. It was at home on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011 where Ron peacefully passed away. Ron was preceded in death by his father, Carl Laner; his sister, Sue O'Dell; his brother, Gary Jo Laner and his grandson, Roger Wayne Hunt. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Margaret, of the home; his mother, Golda Laner, of Tulsa; his children, Jeanette Wingo and her husband, Bill, of Manford, OK, Christine Cranke and her husband, David, of Tulsa, Richard Laner and his wife, Darla, of Pawhuska and Kathryn Frost and her husband, David, of Wagoner; eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Joan Matzdorf of Tulsa; numerous nieces and nephews; other relatives and friends. Pallbearers will be family members, David Christopher Cranke, Nathan Bryant, Andrew Bryant , David Frost, David Cranke and Bill Wingo. Interment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
