Obituary

Ronald Huston Griffin was born July 25, 1932 in Checotah, Oklahoma to Milton Rather Griffin and Madge (Mitchell) Griffin. The family moved to Wagoner, Oklahoma when Ronald was young. He attended Wagoner High School and played football for the Bulldogs. After high school graduation in 1951 Ronald attended OSU where he earned a Bachelor's degree in accounting. He later attended Tulsa University working towards a Master's degree.

Ronald married the former Shirley Irene Jenkins on February 16, 1952. They enjoyed a wonderful life together and lived in the same home for fifty-one years. Few are as fortunate as they were to celebrate their seventieth anniversary this year.

As Ronald grew up in Wagoner, he worked hard to learn skills and help provide for his family.  He had a fond memory of, at age seventeen, learning from and working with his Grandfather Griffin who was a telegraph operator for Katy Railroad. He also delivered ice to homes from the ice plant in town, delivered newspapers, and gathered steel. Ronald's work ethic was established at a young age and continued throughout his life.

His work standards, CPA status and accounting education, all contributed to Ronald's long career in the Chevron Corporation in Tulsa. He began working for the company in May 1962 when it was Skelly. After experiencing many changes in the company Ronald retired in 1994.

Ronald served in the Oklahoma 45 th Division of National Guard from December 12, 1949 until July 1, 1950. He received early discharge because of his young age, and he was still in high school. For this service Ronald received a Korean Service Medal.

He was inducted in the regular army in February 1954 and sent to Fort Riley, Kansas for basic training with the 10 th Mountain Division. He recalled the day they went to the firing range, and Ronald hit six bullseyes from 500 yards. For this he received the Sharpshooter Medal. The group trained to replace the 1 st Infantry Division in Germany who had been stationed there since World War II. Ronald and Shirley spent seventeen months in Germany. Upon return to the States Ronald served again in the Oklahoma National Guard. His final rank was SFC in 1958.

Ronald departed this life to be with the Lord Thursday, October 13, 2022 at his home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma at the age of 90 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Madge Griffin; a sister, Ramona Taber and a brother, Jon Griffin.
